Buy food online with your EBT card +
There are a handful of companies in Vermont that now accept EBT payments for online grocery shopping!
Some stores offer online, curbside, and/or delivery options but please note that the same eligible food rules apply when shopping online, and any associated costs--service charges, delivery fees, etc.--can’t be paid with an EBT Card.
In Vermont, the following stores are authorized to accept EBT payments for online grocery shopping. For a complete list of stores across the country that accept EBT payments online, click here.
- ALDI: Use your EBT Card online for grocery delivery or curbside pickup through Instacart. To use 3SquaresVt benefits, participants will enter their EBT card information on the Instacart app or shop.aldi.us, along with another form of payment to cover non-eligible SNAP items like taxes, tips and fees. Shoppers then enter their zip code to determine if they are near a participating ALDI store and begin shopping. Once EBT SNAP-eligible items are added to their cart, customers can select how much of their benefits they would like to allocate to the order. Please note: EBT Cash benefits are not accepted. - Amazon: Amazon Pantry offers delivery throughout the state of VT. Delivery fees are waived with a minimum purchase. To use 3SquaresVT benefits, visit amazon.com/snap and follow the instructions. You will need to create an Amazon account and add your EBT card information during checkout or save it to your account. Amazon Pantry FAQs.
- Hannaford: Nine Hannaford Supermarkets across the state offer Hannaford-To-Go which allows you to swipe your EBT card in a wireless EBT machine at curbside only. The following stores allow people to submit a Hannaford-To-Go order online and pay at pick-up: Bennington, Brattleboro, Essex Junction, Middlebury, Milton, Rutland, Shelburne, St. Albans, Williston. Learn more about Hannaford-To-Go here.
- Walmart: The Bennington Walmart is the only location in Vermont that allows online shopping with an EBT card for pick-up. Delivery is currently not available. To use 3SquaresVT benefits, click here and follow the instructions. You will need to create a Walmart account and add your EBT card information during checkout or save it to your account. Walmart Pick-Up FAQs (at bottom of page).
- Price Chopper: All Price Chopper/Market 32 stores in Vermont are accepting online orders using your EBT card for curbside pick-up or delivery via Instacart! The first three delivery charges are free, but subsequent deliveries will require payment of delivery fees. Use 3SquaresVT at farmers markets +
Click here to see a list of participating farmers markets and market hours.
At the farmers market, visit the Information Booth; look for a banner that reads: "Information" or "We Accept EBT & Debit Cards Here". Tell the staff person that you'd like to use your EBT card and how much you want to spend. Swipe your card in the EBT machine and enter your PIN. The money will be taken from your 3SquaresVT account.
The staff person will give you wooden tokens equivalent to the amount taken from your EBT card. Use the wooden tokens to purchase fresh, healthy, delicious market fruits, vegetables and herbs!
Wooden tokens are for everyone needing to pay with a debit/credit card, not just EBT card holders. Some farmers market vendors do not accept debit/credit cards at their stands, so anyone who wants to purchase produce from them will need to use cash, a check, or swipe their debit/credit cards at the market info table in exchange for wooden tokens.
Double 3SquaresVT with Crop Cash! Updated 6/2024 +
What is Crop Cash? For every dollar of 3SquaresVT you spend at a participating farmers market, you can receive a dollar of Crop Cash (up to $20) to spend on fruits, vegetables, herbs, and culinary seeds and plant starts. Anyone who receives 3SquaresVT benefits, as well as folks who still have P-EBT benefits, is automatically eligible to get Crop Cash at a farmers market—there is no additional application for this program.
Crop Cash Rules
Crop Cash can only be used to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs, or edible plant seeds/starts.
No change can be given for Crop Cash (i.e. must be used in full $1 increments).
There is a $20 Crop Cash match limit, per market day.
Crop Cash must be used before the expiration date printed on the coupon.
Crop Cash does not need to be spent at the market where you received it.
Crop Cash coupons are given to 3SquaresVT shoppers who receive EBT Food benefits on an EBT Card.
What about the 2023-era Crop Cash Plus program? Last year, NOFA-VT piloted an expansion to Crop Cash Crop Cash Plus, which allowed 3SquaresVT customers to get extra coupons to spend on any SNAP-eligible food (like bread, eggs, meat, dairy, and grains).
This program was incredibly popular and well-utilized. Funding for Crop Cash Plus was one-time, and as such NOFA-VT does not currently have funds to repeat the Crop Cash Plus pilot for 2024. This may change if they receive additional funding from the state.
