New Americans

Any eligible citizen and documented resident of the U.S. can get 3SquaresVT benefits. 3SquaresVT helps tens of thousands of people in Vermont stretch their budgets and buy the foods that work for them.

Many New Americans may be eligible for 3SquaresVT benefits. You can meet eligibility requirements if you have lived in the U.S. for a certain amount of time or qualify under military, refugee, or parolee terms.

Translation interpreters and advocates are here to help you apply for 3SquaresVT benefits! The 3SquaresVT office will arrange for the interpreter you need. If you have any questions about 3SquaresVT, call Vermont Legal Aid toll-free at 1-800-889-2047.

Know your rights.

Even if you can’t get 3SquaresVT because of your immigration status, your children or others in your family may be eligible for benefits.

DCF will not report you to immigration authorities if you are applying for benefits for your children or other household members.

If you do not want to give information about your status, you will not get benefits, but your family members may still be able to get them. Once you tell DCF that you do not want to give them this information, they will not ask you any more questions or try to find out about your immigration status from anyone else.

They will not report you to ICE.

If you need someone to help you communicate, you can ask for a spoken language interpreter, which will be provided to you free of charge. Call 1-855-247-3092 for a spoken language interpreter.
